The Evolution of Emily

Elliott Books is excited to announce the pending release of it's second title, The Evolution of Emily by Kate Scott.

Scott's second novel will be released on November 18th, 2014.

Emily Charles knows how to run away. Away from her overprotective, agoraphobic mother. Away from her biology-obsessed, autistic sister. Away from her quiet sheltered claustrophobic homeschooled life. When Emily's escape plan involves starting her junior year at Kennedy High School, she realizes she's no longer running away. Now she's running towards. Towards her quiet thoughtful cross-country teammate, August. Towards her zany enthusiastic lab partner, Miles. Towards friendship, love, independence, and life.

Thanks to her sister's special interest in biology, Emily knows all about the birds and the bees. Boys are a lot more confusing!

Readers who enjoyed Counting to D won't want to miss Scott's second novel, also set at Kennedy High School.

Counting to D Receives Rave Reviews

The buzz is building, and everyone's talking about Counting to D. Here's what a few reviewers are saying.

“Scott writes from the heart, opening a window into the tumultuous quest for self-identity that any current or former teenager can relate to. Protagonist Sam Wilson also gives an honest portrayal of dyslexia that is sure to speak to those who are familiar with the learning disability, and provide much-needed illumination on this oft misunderstood subject to those who aren’t.” – Kristin Longmuir, Learning Ally’s Content Acquisition Specialist

"Counting to D has an elegant, supple pacing... The clarity and precision of the narrative, combined with genuinely moving characters, makes it a great book for young readers who want to learn more about dyslexia." - IndieReader

"An unlikely heroine who doesn't use a bow and arrow or a magic wand, Sam solves her problems by thinking outside the proverbial box, even when she can't read what's in it." - ForeWord

(5 Stars) "Sam was a lovable and strong main character, and all of the supporting characters were likable as well. They were three-dimensional characters: I felt like they were real people." - LitPick

(5 Stars) "This book inspired me to stop trying to fit in the norm. We shouldn't confine ourselves inside the box. We should try to push the boundaries, and try new things, to never quit, to accept what you can't change and work with it." - Sporadic Reads

"I can only recommend this to teenage girls who enjoy high school drama with a bit of romance. And give it a big...TWO THUMBS UP!!!" Bookworm for Kids

"This book is an entertaining read for teenagers and adults, those who struggle in school and those who don't. There's a little something for everyone in this novel. Such a heartwarming read!" - Lindzee Armstrong

"This book is full of special meanings and lessons and would make a great book for a teen to read or an adult." - Mary's Cup of Tea
